High-speed connectivity for Joburg North

Telkom South Africa has unveilled its Fibre to the Home (FTTH) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) plans.

The telecommunications company plans to roll out FTTH connectivity to over 20 upmarket suburbs in the cities of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.

This comes after Joburg North suburbs, including Craighall and Parkhurst, announced that they had their own plans to roll out FTTH to their residents.

Speaking at the company’s annual results announcement, Telkom’s group CEO, Sipho Maseko, said, “We hear customers’ demands for high quality and high speed Internet connectivity. Telkom is on a determined path to deliver on these demands.”

The main focus of deployment will be on Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, including Houghton Estate, Bryanston, Sandhurst, Westcliff, Rosebank, Craighall, Craighall Park, Illovo, Parktown North, Hyde Park and Parkhurst.

“This rollout is a precursor of many exciting prospects that Telkom is working towards. With speeds of 100 Mbps on the fibre network and peak speeds of 100 Mbps on the home LTE network, the concept of the ‘Connected Home’ becomes a lot more tangible, and the possibility for value-added services is within reach,” said Maseko.
