Cocaine found inside Orange Grove shop

A shopkeeper was arrested after police found cocaine and other drugs in an Orange Grove clothing store.

According to Norwood police spokesperson, Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane, police officers on routine patrol received a tip-off about drugs in the area.

“Upon arrival at the shop, police found a woman whom they asked if they could search the premises,” said Tsoanyane. “The officers found 127 small plastic bags containing cocaine and 61 small plastic wraps containing another type of drug.”

She added that the drugs were found hidden in the upper level of the store.

“The officers proceeded to a house on 10th Avenue where they found more drugs and liquid chemicals used to manufacture drugs. These were sealed and taken to Pretoria for further investigations,” she explained.

Meanwhile, in another incident police found drugs hidden inside a till at a shop in Orange Grove.

Tsoanyane said police also recovered eight cellphones believed to have been stolen.

The suspect was detained at Norwood Police Station and was due to appear in court.
