Local commentator part of interactive tennis programme

Sports lover and former sports commentator, Mike Dunk of Old Eds, is one of the leading names that will be part of a new monthly programme launched by Tennis South Africa.

The programme will be shown via streaming with the first show having successfully been broadcast on 27 May.

The show is aimed at guiding viewers through the latest news and behind-the scenes intrigue of the Columbia Davis Cup tennis tour.

Dunk, who is an avid sports lover, has been involved in broadcasting for 25 years and covered most sports including tennis, football and cricket.

It is because of his commentary skills that he has been to countries such as Sweden, Germany, Italy, France and England. “I have commentated for the Davis Cup, Wimbledon and the French Open ATP year-end finals,” recalled Dunk.

“However, one of my best moments has to admittedly be the experience of being in Sweden during the Davis Cup.”

When Tennis South Africa decided it was going to go into streaming, Dunk said he was very excited about being part of the programme.

“The broadcasting profession has grown in leaps and bounds since I was a commentator. It appears that as sport has advanced, so has the way in which it is presented,” he said.

“The top analysts are contracted to be part of broadcast commentating now and cricket has excellent hosts and anchors during the games.”

With tennis being a growing sport, Dunk commended Tennis South Africa for having diversified the sport and also creating some of the best facilities in the country, including the Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre, in Jabavu Soweto.

Other well-known names to be featured during the streaming programme are former players Robbie Koenig; coach to the Colombian Davis Cup team Jeff Coetzee; and former coach to Amanda Cozeter and Mary Pierce, Michael de Jongh.

The newly launched interactive tennis programme encompasses coaching tips, discussions on the rules, wheelchair tennis, schools news, club news, in-studio debates, nutrition, Tennis South Africa results updates and highlights from local tournaments.
