344 sticks of dagga siezed in bust

GAUTENG 10111 members, whose offices are based in Midrand, attended the Lungisa (Fix) Operation and recovered 344 sticks of dagga with the estimated street value of between R100 and R150 per stick.

Gauteng 10111 media liaison Captain Pinky Tsinyane said, “Operation Lungisa is aimed at complementing and enhancing deployment efforts by city centre police stations to increase police visibility. This is the contribution towards preventing crime and ensuring that communities feel safe.”

She said on 29 May, five members of Gauteng 10111 – Lieutenant Colonel Zanele Mhlongo, Captain Kgauta Mthembu, Captain Regeorgial Moos, Warrant Officer Wouter De Goede and Warrant Officer Lindelwa Sitsha – joined the rest of Gauteng operational members in Johannesburg Central.

As they were patrolling in groups, they stopped and searched one of the taxis that was due to depart from Jeppe Street and recovered bags filled with dagga sticks.

“It is crucial that police members clamp down on drug trafficking and abuse, because it is believed that drugs are depriving the communities of their right to life by getting involved in crime,” said Tsinyane.

She said members were eager and prepared for the next operation. “They said that with their participation in [eliminating] crime, they wanted to achieve their objective by ensuring the safety of the community both on the streets and in shopping malls,” said Tsinyane.
