New music web portal to provide boost to music sector

The newly-launched Music In Africa web portal allows access and an exchange of information in the African music sector

The African music sector will forever be transformed with the introduction of the Music In Africa web platform.

The platform was launched by the Music in Africa Foundation and is currently available on a trial version on the website, www.musicinafrica.net

According to David Durbach of the foundation, the web platform will allow those in the music industry to use it for a variety of things.

“It is a ground-breaking platform that allows users to enhance their knowledge of African music scenes, while effectively networking and promoting their work for free,” he said.

He added that people could also use the platform to find others in the industry, create profiles and discover African music.

Additionally, portal users will be able to contribute by improving existing content or writing their own original content, allowing them to interact and provide information.

“Users will access a range of useful content, including research findings, educational material, tutorials, travel guides…and statistics,” he said.

“[It] will also offer practical tools to help musicians understand important topics such as how royalties are collected.”

Eddie Hatitye, director of the foundation praised the introduction of the platform and highlighted what it would mean for the sector.

“The Music In Africa portal provides exciting opportunities for all those who are active or just interested in the sector, to find useful information and to network effectively,” he said.

The platform will be available as a limited release and the full launch is scheduled to take place in July this year.

The Music In Africa platform is an initiative by Siemens Stiftung and the Goethe-Institut, together with various partners from across Africa.
