Local steakhouse hopes to keep championship title

A Parktown North steakhouse has been announced as a finalist in a national steakhouse competition.

The Wolftrap Steakhouse Championships, now in its second year, recently announced the final five steakhouses for their 2014 competition.

During an interview with the Gazette, Steve Maresch of The Local Grill in Parktown North explained why he believed the restaurant could win the title for the second year in a row.

“While other steakhouses may offer a wonderful dining experience; what makes us special is that we offer every customer a real beef experience,” said Maresch as he shows off his well-stacked freezer.

From infusing pieces of wood with wine for a smoking effect, to cooking a steak on Himalayan salt and salt from Timbuktu, Maresch demonstrated the attention to detail that goes to cooking good beef.

Having moved to Parktown North in 2007, the restaurant and Maresch have become an integral part of the dining community.

“I felt the need to give people the opportunity to share the passion for beef, and over the years we have not only attracted diners but we have also made real friends,” he said.

“We aim to make people respect the origin of food and we guarantee all our patrons that they will never taste a better steak anywhere else.”

In 2013, the steakhouse was announced as the inaugural winner of the Wolftrap Steakhouse Championships and a year later, they are ready to keep the title.

Acknowledging all the other restaurants in the area, Maresch said any accolades awarded to any restaurant in the area rub off on the neighbours too.
