Pupils keep the sick warm

In keeping with the 67 minutes of community service initiative, in honour of late former President Nelson Mandela, Torah Academy pupils have launched a project to keep the sick warm.

During Mandela Day last year, the pupils launched a project where they hand out hot chocolate and sandwiches to patients who visit the Orchards Clinic situated near the school. The project is ongoing and the pupils visit the clinic on a fortnightly basis.

One of the pupils said, “Most of the patients queue from as early as 5am for their regular check-ups and medication and, by the time they are ready to receive attention from the doctors and nursing sisters, they are tired, cold and hungry. Many of them go straight from the clinic to their respective jobs; the project helps them in keeping warm and giving them something to eat.”
