Rape cases worry Bramley CPF
The Bramley Community Policing Forum leadership raised concernes about the number of rape cases that are reported in the recently within the Sector 1 areas of Marlboro Gardens and Marlboro South.
JOBURG – The forum’s chairperson Harvey Phalatse said, “The appeal is for women to walk in pairs, especially early in the morning and late in the evening; also to avoid at all costs dark pathways such as through the Old Alexandra Cemetery.” However, Phalatse said he was satisfied with the interventions of the Bramley police in addressing the “unfortunate trend”. He said, “In fact they [police] even managed to arrest one suspect with the help of the local community in Marlboro Gardens.”
Phalatse also invited residents to the Annual General Meeting to be held on 26 June at Fairways Primary School, corner Corlett Drive and Irene Road in Fairways at 6:30pm. He said the meeting aims to rally communities to be active citizens in the fight against crime, to work closely with the police in reporting incidences and also to be vigilant in their neighbourhoods.
Phalatse said, “The other focus area is strengthening the partnership between the forum, police and the City of Johannesburg in ensuring the enforcement of city bylaws. We want to ensure that there is law and order in our communities, which will allow our men and women in blue to focus on their mandate – which is crime prevention.”
Phalatse also encouraged community members to have the contact numbers of their sector patrol vehicles in order to report crime. He added, “Members of the community are also encouraged to raise their issues at the sector forum meetings, which are held monthly. As a forum we take their issues seriously and ensure that they are attended to by the police station management.”
