Tour Troyeville’s history, art and activism

JOBURG - Explore historic Troyeville on a walking tour with Ancient Secrets tour conductor, Ishvara Dhayan.

The Troyeville Walk will take sightseers on a journey through the suburb’s history, art and anti-apartheid activism.

The tour will begin at local landmark, the Troyeville Hotel.

“Troyeville is one of Johannesburg’s oldest suburbs, dating back to the late 1800s,” said Dhayan.

The walk will include visits to the Spaza Art Gallery, restored Victorian home The Rose Mansion, David Webster Park, Webster’s former home where he was assassinated in 1989, the home of Mahatma Gandhi, the first Spiritualist church in South Africa, Marymount Hospital, Rosemary Joynt’s art studio, and artist Lesley Perkes’ Bed in the Park.

“We will end the walk at the Don Buildings for an optional lunch,” said Dhayan.

The tour will take place on 31 May, leaving from the Troyeville Hotel, 25 Albertina Sisulu Street, Troyeville, at 10am.
