Mika no knit wit

Blogger, Mika Stefano used his status and birthday celebrations to do some good.

Known to many as probably one of South Africa’s most flamboyant social bloggers, Stefano hosted a knitting session for a few of his well-known friends at Southern Sun in Hyde Park in support of Carolyn Steyn’s 67 Blankets initiative.

During what Stefano dubbed the first Knitting Kiki, well-known names such as TV personality Lalla Hirayama, interior designer Alan Foley, songstress LeAnne Dlamini, and model and actress Sheena D, sat in an intimate setting by the hotel’s pool deck, knitting as they watched the sun set.

Dlamini, who looked comfortable with a pair of knitting pins, said although she had last knitted when she was at school, it all came back to her during the session.

“The 67 Blankets initiative is a great idea, one which I am glad to be contributing to,” said Dlamini.

“I am actually going to ask Mika if I can leave with this small piece and go finish off the blanket myself.”

The event was one of Stefano’s week-long birthday shindigs.

“The 67 Blankets for Mandela is a very awesome campaign, but I find the knitting part of it a bit of a challenge so I thought I could get more people to help,” said Stefano,

The blogger also hosted a ‘celeb selfie photo shoot’ on the steps of Nelson Mandela Square with more than 65 South African celebrities, who he said have all had an influence on his career.

He went on to host a movie night at Ster-Kinekor with close friends at the @Zone in Rosebank on 22 May.
