PopArt’s exciting line-up to warm audiences this winter

The PopArt centre has an exciting line-up of shows and plays suited to warm people up this winter.

Weaving in memories and anecdotes from his childhood, Lebogang Mogashoa will be hosting a storytelling show When We Were Nearly Young, consisting of stories about his experiences as a young child in South Africa.

The show features four stories divided into various stages of his childhood. The first is titled Cake and is the story of a young Mogashoa’s first experience with racial barriers that were commonplace in the country.

Other stories included in the exciting line-up are Political Mama, which follows hot on the heels of Cake and focuses on his mother’s political career after 1994.

Marshmallow Flavoured Kisses relates to the comedian’s first romantic encounter, while Born Again Gay explores Mogashoa’s journey into his sexuality, and first encounter with religion.

When We Were Nearly Young has already been performed in front of audiences around the world including Japan, Australia, Canada and Hong Kong.

The show will run from 15 until 18 May at PopArt theatre at the Maboneng Precinct with shows taking place at 8pm from Thursday to Saturday and 3:30pm on Sunday.

More shows coming up at PopArt include The Box stand-up comedy which promises a night filled with non-stop laughter. The show will feature the likes of John Vlismas and Dillian Oliphant and will take place on 18 May at 7pm.

Whistle Stop, a tale about a man, a woman and a dying bird, is another exciting show at PopArt and will run from 22 until 25 May at the centre.

For the romantic at heart, PopArt has Wretched, which tells the tale of two lovers weaving their way through various complications associated with love. This heartwarming play will run from 4 until 8 June.
