Crime hits Yeoville

YEOVILLE – Serious crime incidents had clobbered Yeoville community recently with cases of fraud and possession of drugs were reported to the police.

Serious crime incidents hit the Yeoville community, with a case of fraud and possession of drugs being reported to the police.

In the first incident, a 35-year-old man was arrested for fraud in Yeoville on the corner of Hunter Street and Kenmere Road. Police followed up on information about a man who was allegedly involved in a passport fraud syndicate.

Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said Metro police searched the suspect’s premises and found different passports and visas bearing different names. Malatji said, “He was arrested and detained at Yeoville Police Station.”

In another incident, police arrested a man for allegedly being in possession of drugs on the corner of Hunter and Bezuidenhout streets. Malatji said while police were on routine patrols they saw a man acting suspiciously while sitting in a car. Malatji said after police approached and searched him, they found cocaine in his trousers. The suspect was arrested.

Both suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon.
