Prayers for Nigerian schoolgirls

Dozens of St Mary's School, Waverley, girls and staff members gathered to advocate for the release of 276 Nigerian girls held hostage in the African country by Islamist militant group Boko Haram meanwhile the school’s chaplain, Reverend Gill Lee, led a prayer.

The school’s marketing manager, Kathy Mittendorf said, “We need the world to react and support Nigeria in finding the girls and ensure their safe release from their captors. This campaign will continue until a resolution is sought and the girls are released safely to their distraught families.”

St Mary’s Junior School headmistress, Des Hugo said, “The St Mary’s Junior School will continue to pray for the release of the girls who were kidnapped in Nigeria. ‘We will ask God to honour his beloved daughters and to change the minds of any person who chooses violence against women and children. We too, will pray for the comfort of the parents and families of the missing girls.”

Grade 7 teacher, Robyn Richmond organised white ribbons for Grade 4 to 7 girls to wear on their school blazers.
