Joburg Ballet works to inspire

JOBURG - Joburg Ballet has partnered with the Gauteng Department of Education to inspire and improve the quality of life of the nation's youth.

This followed the recognition of the ballet’s successful activations in schools in 2013 and 2014.

Ballet spokesperson, Lindsay McDonald said the partnership was an effort to make a significant contribution to pupils in the province.

“This partnership aims to grow and develop this motivational programme and reach the broadest possible spectrum of South African youth,” he said.

Making use of ballet and dance to promote healthy, positive choices, the ballet and the department will offer lecture demonstrations to 20 schools in Soweto on 8 and 9 May.

“This programme will roll out over the course of the academic year with a planned schedule of 80 schools and thousands of pupils in the Gauteng area,” said McDonald.

The lecture demonstrations and motivational interactions will hopefully encourage healthy choices, necessary life skills and values among pupils.

“The partnership agreement between Joburg Ballet and the department includes four main objectives: [to] provide positive role models, encourage interest in the arts, job creation, and poverty alleviation,” he said.

“In addition, the ballet will work to promote focus, dedication and teamwork among leaders.”
