Donate your books to the library

Volunteer group, Friends of the Rosebank Library, has appealed to the public to donate books and magazines for their book sale on 24 April.

Friends of the Rosebank Library is an association made up of readers who voluntarily support the Rosebank public library and help to promote its use.

The association’s spokesperson, Judy Stockill said books donated to the library are assessed. “The librarian gets first choice from the books donated and those deemed suitable for the library may be kept,” explained Stockhill.

“The balance is given over to the association to sell. Through the city-wide library system all the books in one library are available to all readers in Joburg.”

All proceeds of the monthly book sales are spent on new books for the library.

Books can be dropped off at the library anytime during normal library hours which are from 9am to 5pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and 9am to 1pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

“Donors can come to the book sale on 24 April and hand over their donation to the association,” said Stockhill.

The association also hosts a book club which meets to review newly purchased books. It is on the first Thursday of each month at 2.30pm.
