Victim punched and robbed at the park

PARKTOWN NORTH – Police are searching for a suspect who punched and robbed a resident while they were taking walk through a local park.

According to the police, the complainant was walking at the Jan van Riebeek Park in Emmarentia. Parkview Police spokesperson Princess Mudau said the victim was talking on the phone when he heard footsteps coming from behind him.

When the complainant turned around, he allegedly saw the male suspect behind him. “The [suspect] grabbed the phone from his hand and punched him,” explained Mudau. After the punch, the victim fell to the floor and the suspect allegedly fled the scene.

When the victim woke up, he allegedly saw a knife lying on the ground, “When he was [being] attacked, he did not notice him [suspect] carrying a knife because it was already dark,” added Mudau.

Anyone who may have information that could lead to an arrest of the suspect is advised to contact the Parkview police station.
