Science lessons with a twist of excitement

Gauteng school children received a science lesson with a twist when Dr Graham Walker hosted The Big Aussie Science Show Off at the Sci-Bono Discovery centre, on 24 March.

Speaking before the start of the show, the Australian High Commissioner to South Africa, Graeme Wilson encouraged the children to explore science more often because the subject has great career prospective.

Wilson introduced Walker as one of two people in the world with a PhD in science performance.

Walker, who performed for more than 100 pupils who were seated inside the auditorium, demonstrated the key principles of chemistry and physics.

“South Africa is one of my favourite countries in the world to perform my science shows,” he said.

Children were enthralled amazed by his explosive experiments and some mind bending science.

Using day-to-day objects and household ingredients Walker was able to explain the dynamics of air pressure and chemical reactions.

He got the children to actively participate in some of his action-packed experiments.

Ukhanyiso Primary School Grade 7 pupil, Mzukisi Jonas said he loved science and enjoyed the performance very much.
