Organisation donates wheelchair

PARKTOWN NORTH – Sweethearts, an outreach organization handed over a wheelchair to a woman who has one leg in Parktown North.

The organisation handed over a wheelchair to Margaret Mausne, who only has one leg and stands on the corner of Jan Smuts and 7th avenues in Parktown North. Sweethearts is a platform for ordinary South Africans to contribute towards, and uplift the lives, of less fortunate individuals in society.

Her brother, Gift, thanked the organisation on her behalf as she does not speak English. “I pray [that] you will be blessed… Thank you for the wheelchair,” he wrote.

Sweethearts collect bread tags and plastic bottle tops which are recycled through waste management company Interwaste in exchange for wheelchairs. Each wheelchair is exchanged for 150kg of bottle tops and 15kg of bread tags.

On Valentine’s Day last year, the organisation handed over their first wheelchair. “This day, which optimises the sharing of love, was the birth of the Sweethearts Foundation,” said the organisation’s Leigh Pearce.

The organisation appealed to anyone who may want to contribute to their initiative to contact them.
