Ithuba marks 20 years of democracy

Renowned artists such as Farieda Nazier and Oupa Mokwena will showcase their artwork this month in an exhibition at Ithuba Art Gallery.

The exhibition is titled Tension Torsion: 20 years on and will commemorate 20 years of democracy. The featured artists’ work will focus on the paradoxical readings of social and political themes in South Africa over the last 20 years.

The exhibition will also comprise a sculptural installation and a critical public education programme.

Nazier is known for her satirical work Nag van die Lang Messe while Mokwena has worked on Our Gnomes, a deconstruction of the African Tokolosh mythology within a political context.

It will also include work by artists such Gordon Froud, who has been actively involved in the national and international art scene, and Avitha Sooful, an artist and academic known for her work in the visual arts field.

The exhibition will run from 20 March until 17 April. Entrance is free and the public can view the exhibition on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm.
