Wife shot dead in her home

Armed robbers kill woman in her home.

UPDATE: 18 March 2014, 2pm: An elderly Parktown North woman was shot dead in her bedroom by a suspected armed robber on 16 March.

Parkview Police Station commander, Colonel Nanda Moodley, said the woman was not feeling well and was sleeping in the bedroom when an intruder entered her home.

According to Moodley, the intruder was able to gain access to the bedroom from the outside. He added that, as the suspect was going through the wardrobe, the woman started to awaken. Moodley said when the woman realised what was happening, she screamed.

“The suspect fired two shots at the woman and ran away,” said Moodley.

The woman’s husband was sitting in the living room watching television when he heard his wife scream and the gun shots.

“The husband ran after the suspect, who also shot him in his abdominal area,” he added.

The woman died while her husband was rushed to hospital; he is no longer in a critical condition.

Initial report: A Parktown North woman was shot dead in her house by suspected armed robbers on 16 March.

Deputy chairman of the Community Policing Forum, Costa Vrana confirmed that one person was shot dead, and another shot and critically injured in the incident.

The couple was said to have been sleeping when the assailants entered the home at about 1am.

Vrana said the man was rushed to hospital and remained in a critical condition.
