Scrap ink repurposed

Artist's discovery leads to new works.

MABONENG PRECINCT- Rubixcube Gallery’s upcoming exhibition will paint a new picture on how reject ink from lithography can be repurposed.

A curious Frederick Clarke stumbled upon a tub labelled ‘scrap ink’ while doing a monoprint workshop, and was intrigued by his findings inside.

“Every colour was there, blended into tins of charged possibility, ” said Clarke

“Lithography ink is like toffee, the colours don’t mix fluidly when poured in together, resulting in highly complex and densely saturated combinations.”

Clarke said that a mirage revealed itself to him when he moved the ink and experimented with density, pressure, and various tools.

The exhibition grasps the beauty and uniqueness that any reject material possesses and displays this celebration of colour and composition.

“If anything, my intention is to create portals, or QR codes of colour and marks, leading to anywhere,” said Clarke

The exhibition will open on 27 March, at Rubixcube Gallery, 264 Fox Street, Arts on Main, Maboneng Precinct, from 6pm.
