30 Seconds to Mars to rock Joburg

South Africa, brace yourselves for a visit from 30 Seconds to Mars.

The American rock band will perform two concerts, one in Joburg and one in Cape Town in June this year.

The band has scaled the heights of rock and roll stardom, and are known for their energetic live performances and fusions of different genres. While their self-titled debut album achieved modest success, their second album A Beautiful Life put them on the map as bona fide rock stars. Released in 2005, the platinum-selling album broadened the band’s sound, garnered them frequent airplay on MTV, and spawned two top 10 modern rock hits.

The band’s 2009 release, This is War, produced three top 10 singles.

The supporting tour set a Guinness world record for the longest concert tour by a rock band.

“Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams, the band’s fourth studio album, marked an evolution in their distinctive sound and was positively received both critically and commercially,” said publicist Dionne Domyan-Mudie.
