HUNDREDS of pupils and parents braved the rainy weather to attend SAHETI School’s annual rugby sevens and netball festival.
The seven-a-side rugby and netball festival has been running for 21 years, and on 1 March featured 24 rugby and 27 netball teams representing 17 schools in the U16 and U19 age groups.
Teams played pool games followed by plate, shield and championship sections. The netball included a bowl trophy.
Krugersdorp High School won both the Open rugby and netball finals. They also reached the rugby U16 finals, but were beaten by Queens High School.
On the netball courts, the U16 section was won by last year’s shield recipients, Redhill High School.
The hosts, SAHETI, scooped three trophies: the plate for both rugby and netball U16, and the shield in the open netball section. Highlands North High School, beat Elsburg High School 7-0 and took the shield trophy in the Opens finals.
SAHETI alumni boys and girls matches were the highlight of the day with 2013 alumni girls losing 6-9 to the older alumni girls in netball.
St John’s old alumni boys were invited guests and played against SAHETI in the rugby match, which SAHETI won.
