Thanks to Norwood Spar and their customers, Norwood Primary School received some form of relief when the retailer’s initiative, Stationery Bus, was presented to the school.

The store had put a big cupboard in a bus-shape outside the shop for customers to drop any form of stationery they bought from the shop for the benefit of the school and its pupils. The shop’s co-owner, Dimitri Georgiou, said the project was to help the school – especially the pupils who come from the underprivileged homes who could not afford all their stationery. He stated that the shop will run the project annually if it proved to be a success and he said he appreciated the customers’ generosity towards a good cause. Georgiou said, “I really appreciate the good gesture shown by our customers, it’s beyond our expectations and the box was full with an assortment of stationery. School stationery is getting more expensive and we want to contribute towards the future of the school and the pupils.”

He said that the project was part of Spar’s social responsibility. Georgiou said, “This is our way of giving back to our community. Our intentions are to support our schools and communities that fall in our area.” The school’s principal, Afrika Hlongwane, said Norwoord Primary really appreciated what the shop had done for them, as it would save the school from unnecessary expense.
