Adopt a pet

PARKWOOD - The Kitty shelter in Parkwood is looking for pet lovers to open their homes to new friends.

The shelter, which homes 30 to 40 adult cats and 30 kittens at any one time, has close to 150 cats and kittens overall and not nearly enough people looking to adopt them.

According to owner Merien Smidt, pet owners are more inclined to adopt dogs and the shelter would like more people to consider also taking in a cat.

Available for adoption, among many, is a 10-month-old grey and white cat called Dolly, as well as Rue who is white and 18 months old. Tigger and Chippy are three-year-old males whose owner retired at an old age home. A number of other kittens are also available.

“We treat our cats like divas and our main goal is to find them good homes so our intention is not to just give them away, but instead to find them responsible and loving owners,” she said.
