Warts and All in Houghton

HOUGHTON - Foxwood House, Houghton is host to a one-man show called Warts and All which is built around stories of Clive Scott’s life.

Scott, who has been involved in the theatre for many years, has now put together a show.

He said, “We look forward to a good response at the lovely venue. The Sunday shows are matinees where people can also book for lunch in the restaurant.”

Scott was born in Johannesburg and studied drama at the Webber Douglas School in London. He underwent an apprenticeship in various production theatres in the United Kingdom. He also did a 1965 stint in The Mousetrap. Scott has been an actor for 54 years.

He said his all-time favourite production was The Villagers. “In that film I was a real mampara, a village idiot,” he said.

Scott, who is also a writer, said he also made films for black people during the apartheid years, such as Mohlaifi.

After Scott’s return to South Africa in 1970, he became one of the country’s best-loved comic actors, with later appearances in Isidingo as well as the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town.

The show will take place on 21, 22 and 23 February.
