‘Be vigilant’ – police

HILLBROW – Hillbrow police have appealed to community members to be cautious after they arrested a suspect for robbing a woman who was walking alone.

Police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said the woman was walking along Fife Avenue carrying her handbag when she was approached by a male suspect armed with a knife. “The suspect demanded her handbag and when she refused to hand it over, he pushed her onto the ground and grabbed the bag,” he said.

Police who were patrolling in the vicinity noticed a suspicious man running with a handbag. “Police gave chase and the suspect dropped the bag and continued running,” said Zondo. However police continued to pursue him and arrested him.

Zondo appealed to community members to exercise caution when they walk along the streets, “You must avoid walking alone because you become an easy target, you must always be vigilant and look out for suspicious behaviour,” he said.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of armed robbery.
