An association with a purpose

Ryan Roseveare of the Craigpark Residents Association is relaxed while enjoying a cup of coffee and discussing his role as chairperson.

Roseveare and his team proved that they can tackle any challenges presented including crime in the area and the 1 Bompas building debacle that saw the association take on the developer over building rights.

He said although he grew up in a politically inclined family, he opted not to take the same route, but rather focused on his business.

However, an unsavoury incident encouraged him to join the association and eventually lead it. “I moved to the suburb seven years ago and after being a victim of a drive-by robbery, I decided to join the security portfolio of the association to become more involved,” he said.

He was elected chairperson after the former chairperson resigned and set out to improve the way the association operated.

“A challenge we face is dealing with apathy from some residents as they do not see the need to contribute to the association,” he added.

Despite the challenges, the association has achieved much in the past few years, with the road island project being the biggest it has embarked on.

Another scheme lined up is the fibre camera project that will see every street in the suburb installed with the technology.

Roseveare lauded his team for all the projects the association had completed. “It’s a good thing we have such dynamic people on the team as it helps with running the association,” he said

His future plans are to remain chairperson for a few years as he says the association still has many plans for the suburb.
