Police arrest three for unlicensed firearms

HILLBROW – Police have arrested three suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms after an investigation led them to a flat in Hillbrow.

Police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said police were following up on information about the suspects, between the ages of 27 and 32, who resided at Corcodia Court flats at corner Abel and Catherine streets.

Zondo said police conducted a search at the flat where two men and a woman were found. “One suspect was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and a further search led police to another firearm,” said Zondo. A CZ 75 semi-automatic pistol, Beretta 9mm and 49 rounds of ammunition were found in the flat.

A further investigation by police determined that the suspects were linked to another case in the Eastern Cape. They are expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

Zondo said criminals must know that Hillbrow was not a place for them to hide, “If they commit crimes in other areas, they must not think they can come and hide in Hillbrow.”
