Noah’s Ark gives thanks

YEOVILLE - The Noah’s Ark Yeoville aftercare centre for vulnerable children thanked all companies and private individuals who donated to the centre following an article by North Eastern Tribune on week ending 17 January.

The centre had been broken into by thieves who stole several valuable items including a stove and pots used to cook for the children. Noah’s Ark offers aftercare services to orphaned and vulnerable primary and high school children from Yeoville and surrounding areas.

Chairperson of the committee which runs the centre, Reverend Tsepo Matubatuba said the centre catered for over 90 children from the age of seven and had been operating since 2004. “After school pupils come to the centre to get assistance with their homework and various school projects, they also get a meal and are looked after while some of their parents are at work,” he said.

Manager at Syd’s Gas, Saul Danilewtz said his family was touched when read saw the article. “It was heart breaking to know that people could steal a stove from a place that helps children in need, so we felt that we had to do something to help out,” he said. The family business donated a gas stove and gas to the centre.

Owner at S4 Security, Donovan Ridley who grew up in Yeoville, donated an alarm system and electric fencing to the centre. “My wife suggested that we help out and we understand that security systems can be expensive, so we were more than happy to help the centre,” he said.

Ridley added that his employees, Doctor Simelani and Billy Tshuma had donated their time to install the security measures.

Committee member of the centre Elizabeth Letlhaku said they were overwhelmed by the response from individuals and companies who opened their hearts to them. “We are truly blessed and may God bless them,” she said.

Matubatuba extended a word of thanks to all donors who contributed, he said they were astounded by the support they received. “We got calls from as far as Bramley and Lombardy East on the day the story was published. Several companies and individuals donated various items and we value them highly, no matter their size. We are truly grateful,” he concluded.

The centre also thanked their anchor partners, the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, Women group “We Care” and Roedean Girls School for their continued support.
