Cellphone shop robbed

NORWOOD - Police are investigating a case where a cellphone shop was robbed of cash and valuable stock.

According to police, two suspects entered the shop in Norwood Mall wearing sunglasses.

“One of the suspects asked for R30 airtime in a bid to distract the teller,” said police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane. She said that another employee then heard a colleague screaming.

Tsoanyane said when the staff member tried to find out what was happening, he was instructed at gunpoint to lie on the floor. “The suspects demanded that one of the employees open the cellphone cage,” she said.

The suspects took all the cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money.

“They tied up both the shop assistants with cable ties and walked away with a bag full of cellphones,” said Tsoanyne. She added that an investigation was underway.
