Donation made to CHOC

Global programme management and construction consultancy, Turner & Townsend, recently handed over a cheque of R72 700 to the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (CHOC).

Working with CHOC since 2010, Turner & Townsend has assisted with sponsorship events to raise funds for CHOC’s projects, as well as provide various services to assist the organisation.

Turner & Townsend managing director Ian Donaldson said it was hugely rewarding to have made a difference on CHOC projects.

He said the projects had created a colourful environment, complete with specially designed play areas to aid rehabilitation, as well as laundry, shower and kitchen facilities to make children and parents – forced to spend many weeks in hospital – more comfortable.

“Our desire to roll up our sleeves and get stuck-in, in a personal capacity, was also supported by our indepth knowledge of the healthcare sector, which allowed us to drive efficiencies while at the same time ensuring world standard innovation for the wards,” said Donaldson.

“We are proud of our working relationship with CHOC and I am delighted that the organisation has received this donation from Turner & Townsend directors who share the project team’s enthusiasm for their important work.”

The donation will be used towards the upgrade and running costs of CHOC House in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Last year CHOC accommodated 5 059 people in their two houses.

Adri Ludick, the divisional manager for CHOC, received the donation.

“I am so thankful for this continuous relationship with Turner & Townsend, which is now four years old,” said Ludick.

“This is just further evidence of their commitment and passion. I always feel safe and in good hands when Turner & Townsend looks after our projects, because I know how dedicated they are.”

Alongside Turner & Townsend’s commercial role, individual members of the project team also volunteered for additional work, taking on tasks such as the sewing of curtains for the wards and planting of gardens.
