Police seek cellphone snatcher

MELROSE ARCH – Norwood police are investigating a robbery where a man allegedly snatched a cellphone from a table while the victim was enjoying a meal out.

According to police, the complainant was eating dinner at Melrose Arch when the man grabbed the cellphone valued at R7 000. “The suspect then ran and climbed into a white Toyota Corolla that was waiting for him,” said police spokesperson Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane.

The complainant notified security guards who managed to stop the vehicle and ordered the man to return the cellphone, said Tsoanyane. The suspect complied and returned the cellphone, “When the security officer tried to alert other security officials to stop the vehicle, the suspects drove off because the gate was already opened.” Police appealed to members of the public who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
