Dorfman Karate excels again

JOBURG - Malcolm and Shane Dorfman, owners of the Parktown North Karate Institute and Norwood Karate Institute respectively, look forward to repeating the successes of 2013, both nationally and internationally.

The members of this branch of Budo karate started 2013 on an impressive note at the Central Gauteng Championships, where they scooped most of the medals there. This prepared them

for the BKI South African Championships in June 2013, where the group managed to accumulate the most titles and gold medals.

Internationally, members Robin Gast and Rasoava Antsomampiana reached the semi-finals of their categories at the WSKA World Championships in Liverpool, England.

More Dorfman Karate members added to this success with Chris Ching, Nick Ching and Damien Wantenaar winning gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in the junior categories at the KWF World Cup in Ringstead, Denmark. The team captain, Nick Baker, was runner-up World Champion in the men’s senior open kata category.

Malcolm Dorfman, newly re-elected WSKA executive committee member and technical commission member, also had the opportunity to hold his annual seminar in the United States for members of the KWF Shotokan America in July. He held another seminar later in the year for JKA Germany members, and on both occasions was asked to return this year.

The year ended successfully for Dorfman Karate with members such as Kevin Croft (28) and Lynn Fisher (50), both Dorfman Karate senior members, successfully passing to the rank of 4th Dan (black belt). The biggest highlight of these examinations was the feat managed by Dr Liz Brenner, who managed to get her 1st Dan belt at the age of 61.
