Police arrest wanted man

BRAMLEY A man, who was wanted for a murder case dating back several years, was arrested after allegedly being involved in a fight at a mall in Bramley.

According to police, a warrant of arrest had been issued for the 58-year-old man after he failed to appear at the South Gauteng High Court for a 2011 murder charge against him.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the man had allegedly shot and killed an electrician in 2011 after an argument about payment at a scrapyard in Bramley. “The electrician confronted the man about payment, he then drew a firearm and fired two shots at the electrician,” he said.

Maphakela said the man fled the scene, however police arrested him within an hour after getting a tip-off. “He appeared in court and was granted bail,” said Maphakela. However, the man only made one court appearance after that and never returned. “Until we arrested him on 20 January,” added Maphakela.

The man was allegedly involved in a fight at a mall in Bramley when police were called to intervene. “While police were stopping the fight, they established that the man was wanted for a murder case,” said Maphakela.

The man allegedly tried to bribe police with R2000 cash. “A charge of bribery will be added,” said Maphakela. The man is expected to appear in court soon.
