The Ridge gives back to the less fortunate

The spirit of Christmas lingered on as the boys of Ridge Junior Preparatory School gave gifts to the less fortunate.

The recipients of this generous donation were the children of the Ilanga Nurturing Care Centre, an initiative that takes care of nearly 200 children from the local neighbourhood.

Situated in Kingsway east of Benoni, the centre has converted shipping containers into a daycare for the children.

The centre also operates a bakery that serves the community to raise funds to sustain it and provide jobs.

The gifts were collected from the school in Westcliff by the Rotary Club of Johannesburg Central and distributed to the centre. A new container will be transformed into a sewing room and computer lab.

A visible sign of the children’s discipline was the way they lined up in rows, according to sex and age, to receive their presents.
