BRAAMFONTEIN - Allow Las Vegas legend Nathan Belt help you get rid of those lonesome nights and Beach Boy Blues when he appears on stage in the inaugural production of Elvis - The Show.
Belt will bring the king to life at Joburg Theatre in a musical biography crafted with talent, reverence and respect for one of music’s most influential performers, Elvis Presley.
“Crowned as ‘king of kings’ and named ‘one of the world’s best’ by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Belt delivers the look, the moves, the charm and most of all, the voice,” said the theatre’s Saskia Goldberg.
“Every song is performed live by this multi-instrumentalist and his full band, and every authentic wink, smirk and hip-swivel will take you back to the glory days of the king.”
The concept for the show began in 2010 when producers Showtime Productions, who’ve been responsible for Michael Jackson HIStory starring Kenny Wizz, and The ABBA Show, wanted to recreate the essence and phenomenon of Elvis live in concert.
The producers embarked on a worldwide search to find a performer able to take on the production, and found their man in Belt, who they described as a “performer who transcended tribute and entered reality”.
Belt toured the USA for years, during which time he gained a reputation as ‘the best’ and brought back the legend of Elvis to thousands of fans.
“The first time I remember recognising an interest in music was when I was five or six years old,” said Belt.
“I found an Elvis Presley 45 [single] of my Dad’s that had Blue Suede Shoes on the A-side and I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry (Over You) on the B-side, and I listened to it over and over again… I pretended to play guitar and danced like Elvis, not even knowing who he was or how he performed.”
From those early days, Belt went on to achieve some of the highest honours in the realm of all things Elvis, including headlining the EP Expo produced by Presley Productions, and becoming a top 10 finalist in the Ultimate Elvis finals in Memphis, USA.
