Dance of passion to ignite theatre

BRAAMFONTEIN - Feel the heat of a dance synonymous with passion and sensuality when Tango Fire - Flames of Desire returns to Joburg for a limited season.

The company, which toured the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, Asia and South Africa with phenomenal success, will ignite Joburg Theatre’s stage with an all-new production in February.

Led by choreography director German Cornejo, the company will take the audience on a journey through the history of the tango, from its roots in the barrios of Buenos Aires to its growing popularity as a contemporary dance form.

“The company features Argentina’s new generation of tango dancers, including five recent tango world champions, in a sensational programme choreographed by Argentina’s hottest young choreographers, Cornejo,” said the theatre’s Saskia Goldberg.

“The 10 dancers are accompanied on stage by four of Argentina’s most brilliant young musicians, Quarteto Fuego, led by sultry violin virtuoso Estefani Corsini.”

Corsini will be joined by other musicians on double bass, piano and bandoneon, while Jesus Hidalgo, one of Argentina’s finest young singers, will contribute vocals.

Tango Fire – Flames of Desire will run from 4 until 23 February at the Mandela Theatre at the Joburg Theatre complex, Braamfontein.
