Armed robbers target Craighall homes

CRAIGHALL - A couple in Craighall Park was left traumatised after their car, a handbag, jewellery and bank cards were stolen.

According to the Parkview police spokesperson Princess Mudau, the robbery took place on 8 January as the couple, in separate cars, were driving into their garage.

Mudau said that one of the suspects forced the husband out of his car and hit him in the face before tying the couples’ hands and feet together.

“The couple was forced to lie on the garage floor. After robbing the couple of their possessions, the three suspects fled with the husband’s car and the possessions,” said Mudau.

According to residents’ association spokesperson Wendy McAllister this was one of three armed robbery incidents to occur in two weeks.

Well-known radio personality David O’Sullivan was also a victim of armed robbery as he was robbed at gun point in his Craighall home on 5 January.

O’Sullivan was reported to have been swimming at his house before he and his children were held at gun point by five unknown men.

Reports alleged the radio presenter’s wife alerted the police to the incident after she noticed something peculiar in the house before pulling up in her car.

The five men managed to get away with valuables from the presenter’s home.

However, McAllister said the past festive season has had the lowest number of crimes to occur in the area as compared to other years.

“The armed robbery cases were unfortunate incidents that took place in both the Craighall Park and Craighall areas,” she said.
