St Mary’s School, Waverley class of 2013 is the best

JOBURG - St Mary’s School, Waverley's class of 2013 produced the best National Senior Certificate results in the school’s 125-year history.

St Mary’s head Deanne King said, “These results were a testament to the strong work ethic, the ethos and the tradition of excellence which define St Mary’s School, Waverley, with our 100 percent bachelor degree pass rate and 419 distinctions.” Two pupils, Julia le Maitre and Clare Walker, achieved 11 distinctions each, as well as being named on the Independent Examination Board’s list of outstanding candidates for having achieved in the top five percent in six or more of their subjects in the 2013 national examinations. Another pupil, Nkululeko Mhlongo, achieved 10 distinctions, including advanced programme English and mathematics.

King said 27 St Mary’s candidates obtained seven or more distinctions each. “In addition to being fully involved in our rewarding and rigorous co-curricular programme, which includes social responsibility, cultural and sports activities, St Mary’s believes that a balanced school environment, coupled with outstanding teachers and facilities, provides the foundation for excellence.”

She added that determination, as well as an exceptional work ethic and tenacity has rewarded each girl with the National Senior Certificate results they “so richly deserve”.
