Bribe brings additional charge

JOBURG - A man was arrested by Yeoville police in connection with a charge of bribery and being in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Yeoville.

A man was arrested by Yeoville police in connection with a charge of bribery, and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to police they were on routine night patrol when they noticed a man walking in Rocky Street in Yeoville. Police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said police stopped and searched the man. They found a 9mm parabellum and ammunition.

Malatji said, “Police also found jewellery suspected to be stolen. The suspect was taken to the station for detention.” While in custody the suspect allegedly offered police officers R2 000 as a bribe. Malatji added that a charge of bribery was also added.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
