Police create awareness of 16 Days

ROSEBANK - The Rosebank police together with a few security companies in the area took to the streets to hand out flyers promoting the safety of women, children and residents during the festive season.

According to spokesperson of the Rosebank police, Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe the initiative was to raise awareness of 16 Days of Activism against Women and Children as most domestic violence cases were reported during the festive season.

“December is our most problematic month in terms of domestic violence but also in terms of crime in general,” he said.

“We as the police are trying to be proactive in dealing with crime and are also making people aware of the possible dangers that come with the festive season.”

Mdletshe said many people tended to leave their homes unattended and this attracted criminals.

“People should take necessary precautions when they go away on holiday and leave their houses guarded,” he advised.

“If your neighbour knows you are not at home then they will be aware of any suspicious activities that may take place in your home while you are away.”
