Mncube proves that nothing is impossible

ALEXANDRA - Sibusiso Mncube cycled from Alexandra to Mpumalanga.

Alexandra resident Sibusiso Mncube has achieved his goal of cycling from Alexandra to Mpumalanga.

It took the 23-year-old sales consultant about eight hours to get to Gemsbokspruit and he has described the journey as one of his proudest moments.

Although he is not a cyclist, Mncube said this was something he had to do. “This was about motivating myself and proving to myself that I can do anything I put my mind to,” he said.

Mncube, who described himself as a person who likes challenges, said his ride to Mpumalanga has taught him that nothing is impossible.

“When I told people about my plan they laughed and said I couldn’t do it. I was not discouraged and wanted to prove to them and to myself that it was achievable. I am not a quitter.” He added that people often set goals but always came up with excuses. “We want to succeed but we don’t want to wake up and get things done.”

The ride was not that lonely for Mncube who had his phone and music to keep him company. “I would stop and check my Facebook just to keep myself updated on what’s happening,” he said.

When he finally reached his destination, Mncube said he couldn’t believe what he had achieved. He admitted that he was very tired and therefore left his bicycle with relatives in Mpumalanga and took a taxi back to Alexandra.

He now has his sights set on Mount Kilimanjaro. “I want to do more things that people think cannot be done.”
