Boy jumps to death from11th-floor window

Hillbrow police have opened an inquest docket following the death of a boy who jumped from a window, which is on the 11th floor at Vickers Flats in Hillbrow.

Police are investigating why the 10-year-old boy jumped out of the window at the flats, located at the corner of Claim and Caroline streets.

Police spokesperson Mduduzi Zondo said the boy had allegedly returned home after playing with his friends. Zondo said, “The mother said her son had gone out to play with his friends on Saturday morning and came back at around 1pm in the afternoon.”

He said, upon the boy’s return, the mother allegedly asked where he had been; the boy did not respond but instead walked towards the window and unexpectedly jumped out from the 11th floor and hit the pavement below. “He was declared dead on the scene. The motive for the boy jumping out the window is unclear and police are investing,” Zondo said.
