Accountability must prevail

Blessing Pandeka writes in response to, Metro police never there when needed (week ending 8 November):

When someone does wrong once and they get away with it, it is likely they will do it again and again unless they are held liable for their actions. They will keep on taking chances to the point of

callousness. Almost like someone who hears a constant sound, they eventually become so used to the sound that they don’t hear it anymore. How much can they get away with before anything is likely to happen?

Metro police have the challenge of perpetually clamping down on culprits so they drive the point home that such behaviour will not be tolerated. However, for as long as nothing gets done the effects of the crime ripple will but merely leave their mark on our land. If Metro police are never there when the taxis are skipping red robots on the roads they use daily, how do we expect them to catch illegal dumpers and the like?
