Buona sera, Mrs Campbell

Before Abba-inspired musical Mamma Mia took our stages and screens by storm, the tale began in 1968 with a 'Mrs Campbell', whose true identity was hidden by a popular American soup brand.

The Majestic Film Society will give lovers of the silver screen the chance to follow this story when it screens Buona Sera, Mrs Campbell later this month.

In the film, three war-time comrades return to an Italian village 20 years after they had met Mrs Campbell – who still collects child support from each of them. Only, all three are anxious to meet their daughter for the first time.

This rare gem of a film stars Neapolitan delight Gina Lollobrigida, Shelley Winters and Telly Savalas, and will be screened on 24 November at the Museum of Military History auditorium, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold, at 6pm. The screening will be followed by a restaurant-catered meal with wine.

On 8 December, the society will rescreen The Royal Tour of 1947 in South Africa, at the same venue, at 2.30pm. The screening will be followed by a royal tea.
