Cops say spurned lover tried to burn his ex

Bramley police are on a manhunt for a Zimbabwean man who allegedly tried to douse his ex-girlfriend with petrol and set her alight.

Police said Dube went to the residence of the woman to try and rekindle their relationship but the woman allegedly refused to open the door to him.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said Dube “left and returned a few minutes later with petrol”. The suspect then allegedly poured the petrol over the door and set it alight.

“The woman saw flames and screamed for help and her father came to her rescue,” said Maphakela. She managed to escape unharmed.

Maphakela said they were searching for Dube and appealed to members of the public who may have information that could lead to his arrest to come forward.
