Bedridden woman’s plight to undergo operation

ALEXANDRA - A woman who has been bed ridden for 18 years cannot undergo procedure in Cape Town as no one will take care of her children.

A woman who has been bedridden for almost 20 years with suspected elephantiasis is unable to go to Cape Town for an operation that could help her to walk again.

Busisiwe Zulu (54), cannot make the journey unless her seven grandchildren are taken care of. “I would like to go for the procedure but I cannot leave my grandchildren alone,” said Zulu.

The procedure which would be paid for by an overseas company would require Zulu to be in Cape Town for four months.

Community leader and philanthropist, Linda Twala who has been supportive of Zulu said, “We are still trying to find a way that Zulu can go to Cape Town and her children can also be safe,” said Twala.

Philile Mncwango of Mjikeni Events Management had asked the City of Johannesburg for assistance in Zulu’s case, but said nothing had been confirmed as yet.

Zulu said, “I can’t say no to this opportunity because the people who want to pay for my medical expenses were sent by God.”
