JOBURG – The organisers of Johannesburg Pride announced the venue for the 26 October event as the Sandton Sport Club at George Lea Park, Holt Street.

The event will commence at 10am and will conclude at 6pm, with the parade and an array of entertainment between.

According to the organising committee’s Simone Heradien, the event “represents the holistic interests of all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual and queer groups and individuals, as well as those significant others, friends, families and acquaintances in solidarity to the cause”.

“It equally represents the straight sexual orientation interests of the bisexual, transgender and intersex components [and is] thus inclusive of all,” she said.

Heradien said this year’s theme, Going back to our roots, was celebratory and an avenue in which challenges faced within the queer community could be raised.

“This year’s Pride, supported through the diamond sponsorship of Lovers+, will address homophobia and transphobia, hate crimes and ‘corrective rape’, noting that these challenges are not exhaustive,” she said.
