According to Eye Witness News the teacher sent naked photos of himself sitting in the bathtub, then unwittingly engaged in a sexually explicit WhatsApp conversation with the boy’s mother.
The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that the teacher has been suspended and an independent investigation launched into how the school and district office handled the matter.
The boy’s mother apparently complained that it took more than a week for the teacher to be suspended. She subsequently laid a criminal charge.
The incident came to light on 30 July when the mother accidently saw an image on her son’s cellphone of a man in a bath holding his genitals. She later discovered who the message had come from. She then pretended to be her son and engaged the teacher in a WhatsApp conversation.
The conversation saw the teacher sending several images of child pornography as well as making numerous sexual suggestions.
The teacher reportedly also implied that another boy at the school had been targeted and was spending time at his house.
The mother reported the case to the principal the next morning, but she claimed it was eight days before the teacher was suspended. The school escalated the matter to the district office.
Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Gershwin Chuenyane said the pupil and the family had received support.
“We will be guided by the outcome of the investigation on what action to take,” he said.
Chuenyane confirmed the investigation would cover the actions of the school and the district office.
The teacher is due in court early in november.
